- about the project
Kandankari Wood Carving in a Kabul Workshop
Kandankari is a traditional wood carving craft known for its detailed geometric and floral patterns.
For centuries it has decorated doors, windows, screens and interiors in mosques, homes and historic buildings, all made by hand with chisels and traditional joinery.
We filmed a workshop in Kabul run by a young female artisan, following the whole process from raw timber to finished design. The film shows the tools, patterns and techniques that keep this unique craft alive, and it is part of our heritage documentary series.
