- about the project
Documenting Traditional Saudi Crafts
Saudi crafts documentary production brought Stock Stop across Saudi Arabia to document the skills, stories and traditions of local artisans. The project featured 13 artisans practicing 10 traditional crafts, ranging from bisht making to wood carving.
Each craft reflects knowledge that artisans have developed and preserved across generations. Therefore, the project needed to capture more than the finished products. It also needed to show the people, techniques and cultural meaning behind the work.
Stock Stop filmed and produced the project as an original, independent documentary. Our objective was to create a lasting visual record of traditional Saudi craftsmanship while introducing these skills to a broader audience.
- PROJECT DETAILS
Thirteen Artisans and Ten Traditional Crafts
For the Saudi crafts documentary production, our team filmed 13 artisans as they demonstrated 10 different traditional crafts. The production focused on the details of their work, including the materials, tools and techniques involved in each process.
The documentary included crafts such as bisht making and wood carving. Close visual coverage helped show the precision, patience and experience required to produce every item.
Rather than presenting the crafts only as finished objects, the documentary focused on the artisans behind them. Their work represents personal expertise as well as a connection to Saudi Arabia’s cultural identity and history.
Capturing several crafts within one project required a consistent documentary approach. Our team maintained a unified visual style while allowing each artisan and craft to retain its own character.
The project provided an opportunity to preserve traditional knowledge through film. It also demonstrated how documentary production can help cultural practices reach audiences beyond the communities where they originated.
- FINAL DELIVERY
