The Last Glassblowers of Herat

In the city of Herat, one family is keeping the ancient craft of glassblowing alive.

They turn molten glass into cups and striking works of art, using skills passed down through generations. Each piece starts as a glowing gather of glass on the end of a blowpipe, shaped with breath, heat and simple hand tools.

Few workshops like theirs remain, and the craft is at risk of disappearing. Our film follows the family at the furnace, and it is part of our Intangible Heritage series of documentaries about traditional crafts.
