The Premise
Aperture follows acclaimed British photographer Richard Wilding as he returns to Saudi Arabia after 14 years to revisit the landscapes, people, and traditions he once documented. Through his lens, the film captures the profound cultural, social, and physical transformation of a nation in motion.
The ambition was to build a genuine before-and-after portrait of the Kingdom, setting Richard’s earlier photographs against the country he found on his return, across regions as varied as the coast, the mountains, and the desert.

- Solution
Filming took the production across Jeddah, Jazan, the Farasan Islands, Aseer, Rijal Alma, Faifa, Diriyah, and AlUla. In each location, Richard reconnected with former collaborators and the communities he first met years earlier, so the story grew into both a record of national change and a personal narrative of rediscovery. Archival imagery was woven through contemporary footage, letting the two eras sit side by side on screen.
