Booth videos in Saudi Arabia have one job: stop someone walking past. Almost everything that works in a normal film works against you on an exhibition floor, which is why so many stands end up playing a corporate video nobody watches.
We made the booth videos for a stand at Cityscape, and the rules turned out to be simple and strict.
Assume nobody hears it
The hall is loud and your screen has no speakers worth the name. If the film needs audio to make sense, it will not make sense.
Short loops, big text
Twenty to thirty seconds, looping, with text large enough to read from three metres away while walking. Subtitles designed in from the start, not added at the end.
Open on the thing itself
No logo build, no slow establishing shot. The first frame should show what you make. You have about a second and a half.
Film on the stand while you are there
An exhibition is the cheapest chance you will get to film interviews with your own team and visiting clients, all in one place and already dressed for it. Most companies waste it.
How long booth videos in Saudi Arabia should run
Twenty to thirty seconds, looping, with no obvious beginning or end. Anyone who stops is giving you a few seconds of attention they had not planned to give, and a film with a proper opening punishes every single person who arrives in the middle of it.
“Assume nobody hears it and nobody stops. Then make it work anyway.”
