Exploded views, how something assembles, what happens inside it. If you have CAD files, say so immediately. Starting from your own models rather than rebuilding from photographs can halve the work.
Architecture and development
Flythroughs of what is coming, used for sales and approvals long before anything exists. The quality of the result depends almost entirely on the quality of the source model you hand over.
Industrial and process
How a plant works, how a line runs, where a part goes. Often the only way to show it, since the real thing is enclosed, dangerous, or simply too big to see.

We agree still frames first. Rendering is the expensive part and re rendering because someone changed their mind about a colour is the single most avoidable cost in 3D.
